Hi, and thank you for a great component and module.

I downloaded the module listed in J3.0 components and installed it in a J2.5 site. It worked fine with random quotes, but when I try to select a daily quote, I get the following error:

Warning: Missing argument 2 for getDailyRquote(), called in /.../mod_rquotes.php on line 60 and defined in /.../helper.php on line 222

I've selected quotes from the db, display daily, a category, and rotate quotes daily.

I've set the daily number to 31 since today is january 31st.

Am I missing something?

Thank you!

Hi!

There are 2ways to use daily quotes.

1) to display a quote for a 24 hour period you need a daily number for each quote. Say you have 25 quotes in your category , give each one a daily number from 1to 25. In the module choose your category and rotate quotes daily. this will give you a different quote every 24 hours.

2) if you want to display a particular quote on a particular day of the year, give the quote a daily number based on the php day of the year from 1 to 365. Choose rotate quotes by date. The quote with the daily number of the day of the year will display on that day.

Example feb 5 is the 36th day of the year so the quote with daily # 36 will display.

I hope this helps. If you need anything more ,dont't hesitate to ask.

Thanks for using Rquotes

Thank you for your reply.

I was able to configure it that way. For example, it was january 31st, I set the day number as 31.

But when I configure it that way, I get an error message like the one I posted above, instead of showing the quote for that day. Might be a bug, maybe?

Hi!

My mistake,

Go to modules/mod_rquotes/helper.php

Change line # 454 function getTodayRquote($category,$x)

To

function getTodayRquote($category)

Also make sure you have a daily_number for the actual day according to php.

Actual days of the year can vary depending on your server setup and time of day. To be safe have quotes with Daily#'s before and after the day.

Sorry for my Boo Boo.

Kevin

Hello,

I'm using RQuote 2.5.2. on my Joomla 2.5 website. At present RQuote is used to display a random picture and a daily quote. At first glance it all works fine, but when I turn on error reporting on my site I get the same error as in this post (the quote still shows). I've changed the helper.php file as show in this post, but wit no succes.

I asked my webhoster what I should do. They said that the error comes up in their server logs every time somebody visits my homepage. But if the website works as intended, I should just disable error reporting.

I was wondering if there isn't a other, more elegant solution.

Hi!

Sorry for the delay. I don't have a better solution for you as of now. I'll try to correct all the errors in the next version.

Thanks

Kevin

Hi again,

I made a new install on Joomla 2.5.27 and can't get the "by date" setting to work.

Today is november 10th, and I have set up quotes in the component with daily numbers 343,344, and 345. I chose database as the source and rotate quotes by date but I still get a different quote everytime I reload the page.

Am I missing anything else?

Thank you!
